Telluride, CO is a former silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains of Colorado. The town of Telluride, Colorado, began with rich gold strikes in the 1870's. This typically-boisterous boomtown attracted fortune-seekers from near and far, whose relatives sent them away with the castaway call, "To hell you ride." Mining was Telluride's only industry until 1972, when the first ski lift was installed by Telluride Ski Resort. Telluride now is known for its ski resort.
