Durango, CO is located in La Plata County. Durango is named after Durango, Mexico. The word "Durango" originates from the Basque word "Urango" meaning "water town".

Durango is burrowed in the Animas River Valley and beset by the San Juan Mountain range. The Animas River that flows through Durango brings lots of attention to the area; great fly fishing, rafting adventures, kayaking, and canoing.
