Before moving in with your roommate, agree ahead of time
Get to know your legal rights and obligations before commiting to a roommate situation. To avoid possible "fights", make an agreement ahead of time with your future roommate about the issues most important to you.
Form a verbal or written agreement about conduct on those items, and sign or shake on it. This will lay the groundwork for the most agreeable situation in the longer-term.
If you are unsure about your potential roommate, have a background check run. Print out an application and sign up here!
And remember: when exchanging emails and phone calls with potential roommates try to use manners and be polite.
"I just wanted to update you on my search. I found a roommate. Please take me off the active list. Thanks for all your help. This was the best way to find a roommate. Knowing up front what part of town the place was in and being able to quickly get in contact over e-mail is a great help, especially when trying to move to Boulder from across the country. You have a great service."
