FAQ Advice/Tips
Be a responsible pet owner in every area
Moving to a new place can be just as stressful for your pet as it is for you. However, you can't reasonably or responsibly ignore the impact your pet has on your neighbors. Some laws governing pets in the Denver Metro area and a few common-sense rules to keep your neighbors happy follow.
- Always clean up after your pet
- When not on your property, keep your dog on a leash
- By keeping your cat indoors, keep him/her healthy and help them live longer
- Ensure that your dog or cat is licensed and wearing identification
- Have your dog or cat spayed or neutered to help keep it healthy and behaved
- Provide your pet with appropriate exercise
- If you're a prospective resident, impress upon your potential property owner/manager/roommate your knowledge of the laws governing pets in the Denver Metro area and your responsibility.
- Make sure you bring previous references for your pet to new property managers/owners/roommates
- Offer to let the potential Owner have an "interview" with your petWhat happens when I get a "fishy" email?
Let us know
One reason we have a small fee for our roommate service is too keep the customers on our site legitimate. There seems to be a lot of scammers in the roommate department out there.
This is how it goes: Someone emails you promising to take the place or is "very interested" or "awaiting your quick response." Usually their emails are long and talk about the "humanitarian" work they do or they are from such-and-such college in Europe. Most have very bad or improper English. They will promise to send you money for the room, but the check is fraudulent. So you are out of money and your bank will not refund you. We try our hardest to find these people before they contact you from our roommate service. Sometimes they sneak through. We investigate every case that people tell us about. If you are uncomfortable dealing with a specific person, you should let us know immediately so we can investigate.
Use common sense and be careful when dealing with potential roommates. Email us at Roommates@housinghelpers.com
If you want to screen your potential roommate, request that they get a background check.

Login Often to get roommate matches
Exact roommate matches pair you with those who NEED A PLACE or HAVE A PLACE based on location, rent, lease, gender, age, move-in date, pets, and smoking. Exact matches will be sent to your email.
Roommateshop® also provides NEAR and DISTANT matches. We do not send NEAR or DISTANT roommate matches to your email.
NEAR and DISTANT roommate matches are based on the same criteria as EXACT roommate matches but broader and with small differences. We think it's a good idea to periodically check these matches.
Login using your login name and password for Roommateshop® to find your NEAR and DISTANT matches. They are located on the top information bar in green.
